Discussion:
Is my SNES broken?

It seems to work fine with the co-axial lead that came with it, but
when I use my GameCube's RGB SCART lead, the picture is bright at first
but then fades to a dark un watchable picture after a few seconds. If
I turn the SNES off then on again, the same thing happens.

Is it the SNES's video card?

Is this a known problem when using an official Nintendo GameCube RGB lead?

Should I return my SNES to the person I bought it from?

Thanks,

That sounds strange. I didn't even know the SNES output RGB? Are you
sure it's RGB and not composite? I don't know why that should happen
though. Are you using a UK lead with a UK SNES or US lead with US SNES?
I know that the SCART lead for my US SNES doesn't work with my UK N64
(I've no idea why though).

I don't know the compatibility story about the RGB cable with SNES, N64 and
GC.
I think the N64 didn't have RGB support, something about the pinouts on the
motherboard being short? and therefore needing a mod, so that RGB support
is then rectified.
Don't know the story about the GC. I know the SNES should work with the
SNES RGB cable, so maybe the GC RGB cable is different?

Sony did something different with the RGB on the PS2, such that the PS
RGB cable wouldn't work on it...?

It's a UK SNES. It does output RGB using the lead for a UK Gamecube -
it's just that after a few seconds the screen fades to almost black. I
wonder if the RGB cable for the Gamecube has different resistors in it
or something? I will have to see if I can hunt down an official SNES
RGB lead. Fortunately, the coaxial lead gives a surprisingly good
picture when connected to an LCD screen.
